Description

Artemis situated herself on her tall chair as her grandmother handed her a wide bowl of water. The moon Goddess has shown her full face for the month and it was custom to converse with her at this time.
"What if nothing happens?"  Artemis said doubtfully as she glanced into the waters reflection. She had trained plenty for this kind of thing, but this was the first time she would speak with the Goddess on behalf of a client.
"Something always happens." Her grandmother and teacher comforted. "Simply report everything you feel, everything you hear or sense. Your client will know and interpret what it means to them." Artemis found some support in her short elders smile, but the butterflies in her stomach wouldn't leave.
A tall human General parted the fabric veil to enter the small court room.
"You're almost late young man." Everyone was young to grandmother, but this gentlemen was in his early 30's. Humans are a rare sight to Island since the cold wars between the races. However this person was an ambassador for working peace between the two people and had become friends with the locals.
"Sorry," He brushed it off, taking a seat on a cushion in front of them. "So how does this thing work, I ask any question to Art here and she asks your moon goddess about it?"
"Close enough" Grandmother sighed at his western interpretation of their culture.
"Alright, then tell me about my career." He joked. "Am I gunna get far in foreign affairs, or should I go back to the domestic troop base?"
Artemis took a deep breath.
"When you're ready." Her grandmother condoled softly.
Staring softly into the bowl on her lap Artemis focused on the moons reflection. Letting its light play tricks on her eyes. Yet...to her dismay, her fears where realized. Nothing was happening. She tried to focus harder, trying to create the trace state she created so many times in training. "I see dark....blotches blocking out light?" At this point she felt like a sham; utterly embarrassed with her skill. Sure she could "see" things but not on demand like this. "I'm so sorry, I don't think....." Looking up Artemis realized the room was empty. Both her client and her grandmother simply vanished. Her first thought was this was a joke, but something was different about the world around her. A fuzzy glow or warmth seemed to emanate from everything. Artemis placed the water bowl to the side and stepped off the chair to look for her friends. "Hello?" She questioned out into the darkness. "Grandma? Ralen? You guys heeerrree....." Turning around, Artemis saw herself still sitting properly on the stool behind her, eyes alight with white light. The slow realized shock caused Artemis to shriek, only to through open her eyes and find herself back on the stool where she had seen herself a moment ago. Both Ralen and her Grandmother had their wide eyes on her.
"Artemis dear, are you alright!?" Her grandmother quickly removed the water bowl from her lap and tried to help her stand. At first Artemis's body felt numb, she slowly tried to regain use of her limbs. With her grandmother help she maneuvered her into a another room to the side.
"Rest here love. I'll take care of the client" ~

To possibly be continued ~

A little exert from what I imagined was happening in the picture. Artemis's main job is being a shaman, using herbs and magic to heal. Though here we have her using her talents for divination purposes~

Color pencils on paper and some clean up with Gimp. Lost track of how long I took on it XD
